The UL 2218 impact test drops a steel ball from 20 feet onto a shingle. The diameter that survives without cracking decides the rating. Here is what that means for Calgary.

How much does a new roof cost in Calgary?
Most Calgary asphalt replacements run $10,000-$18,000 depending on roof size, pitch, and shingle rating. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles cost about $1,500-$3,000 more than architectural — often offset by insurer premium discounts and a longer hail-damage life.
How long does the install take?
Most Calgary residential roofs finish in one day. Larger or steeper homes (3,000+ sq ft, 8/12 pitch and up) sometimes need a second day. We do not start a job we cannot finish before weather rolls in.
What is the difference between Class 3 and Class 4 shingles?
Class 3 survives a 1.75-inch steel-ball drop; Class 4 survives a 2-inch drop. Only Class 4 is officially "impact-resistant" under UL 2218. In Calgary, the Class 4 upgrade typically pays for itself through insurer discounts and longer hail life.
What shingle brands do you install?
GAF, IKO, Malarkey, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed are our primary lines. We bring physical samples to your home so you see the colour on your siding before you commit. No mystery selection from a tiny brochure.
Can you do siding and exteriors at the same time?
Yes — and you should consider it. If hail hit your roof, it hit your siding, soffit, fascia, and eavestrough too. Same crew, same warranty, no second contractor to schedule.
When should I replace instead of repair?
If more than 25-30% of shingles are damaged, your roof is over 18 years old, or you have had two hail claims on the same roof, replacement is usually the cheaper long-term call. We tell you straight during the inspection.
What warranty do I get?
Full shingle replacements carry our Limited Lifetime workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer material warranty (25 years to lifetime depending on shingle). Vinyl siding and soft metal work carry a 5-year workmanship warranty. Flat-roof and commercial work carry 10 years. All documented in your contract before installation day.
